Every Holy Week, Pasay City hosts the Malibay Cenaculo, a historic play depicting the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Recognized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts as the oldest continuous play of its kind in the Philippines, it draws locals and visitors seeking a deeply spiritual experience.
Performed from March 30 to April 8, the play is unique for its nighttime schedule, starting at 9 PM, with the exception of Good Friday. On that day, the pivotal scenes of Jesus’ passion and death are staged at noon, culminating in a procession to Golgotha through the streets of Malibay.
Participants include Mary, Joseph, the Roman soldiers, the twelve apostles, and Jesus Christ, brought to life by dedicated local performers. The immersive spectacle combines drama, devotion, and tradition, leaving audiences in awe of the performers’ commitment and the story’s emotional depth.
The Malibay Cenaculo is more than a theatrical performance—it is a cultural and religious event that preserves Filipino Catholic traditions while providing a reflective, communal experience during Holy Week.
Attending the Malibay Cenaculo allows visitors to witness a living tradition, where faith, art, and community intersect, making Pasay City a unique destination for Holy Week observances.
